Modern elements that refresh an old story. This Holmes and Watson text relentlessly, use GPS and Google to solve cases, and maintain personal blogs and forums dedicated to their work Yes, those links are legitimate sites actually run by the BBC and are well worth checking out. They're very fun. This Sherlock occasionally even gasp! A seriously talented cast. His Holmes is antisocial, arrogant, cerebral, dark, charismatic, and vaguely alien all at the same time.
His John is intelligent, brave, and damaged enough to be interesting in his own right. Brilliant writing. Producers Steven Moffat of Doctor Who fame and Mark Gatiss also of Who fame, among many other worthy credits have done a remarkable job crafting a story full of fun twists and brilliant dialogue.
It's clear from Sherlock's first appearance onscreen that this adaptation was put together by people who have real affection for these characters and a firm commitment to "modernizing" their story without disrespecting the source material. The dialogue is quick and clever, the story moves at a rapid, exciting pace, and the show just expects its viewers can keep up.
Much like Doctor Who , there's an awful lot of running. Sherlock and John are the best friends. Because each episode is a minute movie, those three seasons equal a total of minutes of viewing.
That said, the movie-like style makes it easy to binge-watch the show in very precise doses. Namely: an episode per night, for 10 nights. Though it's Sherlock's interactions with and, some might say, reliance on Watson that make the show tick, it's Benedict Cumberbatch's seemingly effortless portrayal of the quirky consulting detective that keeps viewers coming back. Yes, he's almost universally despised by those he meets and regularly acts in manner that is more akin to an emotionless robot than a flesh-and-blood human being.
Why would you want to miss one? But if you must It introduces us to Sherlock and Watson, details their first meeting and awkward getting-to-know-you phase, and ends with seeing them on the road to an actual friendship.
Sherlock also loves to tease the idea that Holmes and Watson were more than just platonic friends, which is a running joke throughout the series. The very first episode is in fact one of the ones I found a bit disturbing, and the scene in question contained no violence at all - but it did contain a horrible creeping realisation of what was going on, and how this killer worked I won't go into it; I don't do spoilers.
Some episodes in later seasons would be even more problematic. This is not a show that relies on jump-scares or a beastie chasing around and trying to eat people. That kind of fear is immediate and easily forgotten. This is a show that has been very cleverly and deliberately written to reach deep into the human psyche, find the vulnerabilities hiding there, and oh-so-gently start to squeeze For the record, yes there is also a dominatrix with all the attendant issues that might raise only a problem in one episode, and it's actually less of a drama than you might expect.
There is drug use, not always with any real consequences although the heavier examples of this occur much later - not really an issue in the first couple of seasons.
There are also very complex, very intense, and sometimes devastating, emotional relationships between major characters and no, I don't mean they are sexual, but in some cases they may be a bit heavy for younger viewers. It is a masterpiece. But it isn't for kids, or even tweens.
Older teenagers will be fine, and in general will be much better placed to appreciate it anyway. This title contains: Positive Messages. Helped me decide 3. Had useful details 4. Read my mind 2. Adult Written by Ash March 29, My favorite show! It is a very well written and clever show. There is some violence, but there is no gore. There are a few sexual innuendos throughout the show; however, I didn't even catch most of them until the 2nd or 3rd time watching the series.
In season 2 there is an episode that may seem scandalous but no sex or full nudity is shown-- everything is always covered up. Profanity is very minimal. There is a great storyline and great character development. It is very comparable morally and violence to Marvel movies. The very few drug references are minimal and mostly pertain to those who've been rehabilitated. Positive role models. Helped me decide 2. Read my mind 3.
Parent Written by BeckyDee December 28, For inquisitive minds! Fast-paced, well-written modern adaptation of the books. Pause if your child isn't comfortable with crime stories as there are murders and kidnappings that Sherlock usually solves.
The positives outweigh the negatives, in my family's experience, and my teen and preteen love the show. Note about Season 2, Episode 1 "A Scandal in Belgravia," we skipped that one as it involved a dominatrix and the ick factor was just too high.
Read my mind 1. Adult Written by theblanchedsoldier February 23, Watched every episode 50 times Really great show. If you like Sherlock Holmes and are familiar with the stories, you'll get hooked. I think it would be good for kids to watch this if they're able to stand 90 minutes of mostly no exciting action because it might motivate them to be as smart as Sherlock.
With all his deductions and quick intellect, you cannot help but feel in awe - kind of like John Watson. I have absolutely no issue with this show, for kids and teens alike. Well, except for the long hiatuses. If you become addicted to this show like I did, don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting two years for the next episode to come.

Sherlock is perfect for that, it's a series that clearly addresses murders, ie blood, frightening things like supernatural illusions and relationships nudity scenes.

Adult Written by catarata24 January 13, First season clean, second season starting off with nudity The first season of the show was clean regarding sexual content. The first episode of the second season showed a woman nude except for her arms covering the sensitive areas. This scene went on for several minutes. The woman was also shown wearing lingerie and was a dominatrix.
There are references to her work.
